Hardware wallet

In short

A hardware wallet is a dedicated device that keeps your private keys permanently offline and signs transactions without ever exposing them. It is considered the security standard for larger amounts and long holding periods.

Because the keys never leave the device, they are shielded from remote attacks and malware. Correct setup is key: buy only from the manufacturer, let the device generate the seed phrase, and back it up offline.

Do beginners need a hardware wallet right away?

Once amounts would hurt to lose — roughly a few hundred euros — it pays off. For first steps a small software wallet is enough at the start.
