HODL is crypto slang for uncompromising holding through all swings — born in 2013 from a legendary typo ("I AM HODLING") on a Bitcoin forum.
Behind the meme is a real strategy: those who don't trade can't be shaken out. It only works with positions whose total loss you could bear.
