Layer 2
In short
Layer-2 networks batch transactions off the main blockchain and anchor only the result there. Effect: fees in cents instead of double digits, with inherited security.
On Ethereum, rollups (Arbitrum, Base, Optimism etc.) dominate; Bitcoin's counterpart for payments is Lightning. For everyday use, L2s are the standard route today.
Are my coins on a layer 2 "real" coins?
Yes — but with bridge risks when moving in and out. Use official bridges.
